Man kills friend with dagger, arraigned

The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a 28-year-old man, Habu Sanni, before an Akure Magistrate Court, for killing his friend with dagger.

The defendant whose address was not provided, is standing trial for murder.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simon Wada, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on December  25, 2023, at 11:00 pm along Benin-Owo Expressway in Akure.

According to the prosecutor, Habu used a dagger to split the throat of one Akon Adam after an argument ensued between them, which eventually led to his death.

The offence contravene Section 319(1) of the Criminal. Code Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria 2006.

Through a remand application, the prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP).

However, the defence counsel, G.O. Bernard, holding the brief of Kehinde Osadugba,  prayed the court for a date to reply to the remand application, through a counter affidavit.

Magistrate D.S. Sekoni adjourned the case till February 2, 2024, for ruling on the application.
