Man machetes policeman to death in Ondo

Pandemonium erupted last Saturday at Enu-Owa Police Station in Ondo, following the murder of a police sergeant Abiodun Omoterinwa by a yet to be identified attacker, who also killed a 75- year-old farmer and left two other policemen in critical condition.

The attacker who was said to be on a revenge mission at Onipetesi village in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, killed the 75-year-old farmer, Mr Olusegun Oyadele in front of his house.

The assailant also known as ‘at all at all’ severed two arms of two police officers who are now critically receiving treatment at an unnamed private Hospital.

The Hope learnt that the attacker who had earlier been banished from the community due to his provocative activities only for him to stage a dramatic and violent come back

The source said the man whose name is still unknown at press time launched a machete attack on Oyadele who was sitting in front of his house drying his cocoa seeds when the siege took place.

According to eyewitness account, the murder forced many of the inhabitants to take to their heels while a reinforcement  from the Enu Owa police division reportedly met a fierce violent confrontation from the attacker who attacked the policemen with machete cut .

All efforts to demobilise the attacker was unsuccessful, fuelling another reinforcement of policemen who equally met with a more violent rebuff  from the attacker who chopped off the arms of the policemen who came to effect his arrest.

During the pandemonium, many of the villagers took to the bush for fear of arrest.

At the time of this report, the where about of many of the villagers is unknown as the village has been deserted.

The case was immediately reported to the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom and the monarch who was away to Lagos instructed a chief in charge of security to mobilise and arrest the man.

As at the time of writing this report, the two wounded police officers who are in critical conditions are in the hospital receiving treatment while the remains of the deceased has been deposited at morgue in the area.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Femi Joseph said the man was later disarmed and arrested around 10:00pm yesterday (Saturday) and presently in one of the hospital in Akure.
