Man matchetes, chops off wife’s fingers

A 42-year-old man, Idowu Benson has been remanded in the prison custody for attempting to kill his wife with cutlass.

The accused was alleged to have on August 3, 2018 at about 7:30pm at kardorb college street, off Akure /Owo expressway, Oba-Ile, in the Akure magisterial district did unlawfully wound one Ologundudu Kemi by putting on mask and used cutlass to matchet her on her head and her fingers, thereby sustained deep cut on her head and two of her fingers were cut off.

The accused was alleged to have on the same day and time threatened to injure and attempted to kill Ologundudu Kemi with cutlass and knife.

The accused was alleged to have conducted himself in a manner which was likely to cause a breach of peace by presenting himself to Ologundudu Kemi as assassin and attempted to kill her with cutlass in his hand.

The offenses were said to be contrary to and punishable under  sections 388(1),86(1),249(d) of the criminal code cap 37.vol I laws of Ondo state of Nigeria 2006

Prosecution, sergeant Adeoye Adesegun urged  the court to remand the accused because he said granting him bail might jeopardise the course of justice.

Counsel to the accused, Barrister S. O. James prayed the court to grant the accused bail in the most liberal term, saying the offences are bailable one.

In his ruling the Chief Magistrate Mr Mayomi Olanipekun ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody pending court’s final ruling.

The case was adjourned till September 20,2018 for ruling.
