A 30-year-old man, John Amos, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court, for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing one count of rape.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simon Wada, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 14, 2024, at about 8 p.m. at NDDC quarters in Igbodigo, Okitipupa.
The prosecutor alleged that Amos unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the victim (name withheld) without her consent.
He was said to have committed an offence contrary to Sections 221(1) and (2) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006, while his plea was not taken.
Wada, through an application, prayed the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending an advice from the office of the Director for Public Prosecution (DPP).
The defence counsel, H.O. Orisameyiti, prayed to the court for a date to reply to the application.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni remanded the defendant in the Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till March 1, 2024, for the application.
