Man remanded for alleged burglary, motorcycle theft

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has ordered the remand of a man, Anietie Etim, for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing a TVS motorcycle, Elepaq generator and other items valued at N1.1millon.

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, arraigned the defendant on a three-count charge of burglary and stealing before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni.

The prosecuting counsel,  N.J. Osele, told the court that the offences were committed on January 26, 2025, at about 9:30 p.m. in the Oshinle area of Akure.

Osele accused Etim of stealing a blue TVS motorcycle with plate number BDR-097-VG, valued at N300,000, belonging to one Wisdom David.

He was also alleged to have broken into the shop of one Falaye Olubunmi between December 2024 and January 2025, around 9:30 p.m., at the Farmers Congress premises in Alagbaka, Akure.

The prosecution further alleged that, during the same period, the defendant carted away N12,000 in cash, a pressure machine worth N300,000, and a yellow Elepaq generator valued at N500,000, all belonging to Olubunmi.

The offences, according to the prosecution, contravene Sections 383 and 390(9), 410, and 413 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ruling on his bail application, Magistrate Sekoni granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

However, as the defendant was unable to meet the bail conditions, he was remanded in Amotekun custody.

The case was adjourned until February 24, 2025, for further hearing.
