A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State has ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Seun Emmanuel, in a correctional centre for allegedly killing one Junior Ayodele with a machete in Ode-Irele.
Emmanuel is alleged to have attacked the victim during a dispute. Consequently, he was arraigned on a murder charge before Magistrate Oladayo Omotoso.
Police Prosecutor Folasade Adeyemi informed the court that the incident occurred on 25 September 2024 at about 4:30 p.m. at Luroho Street, Ode-Irele, Ondo State.
The charge read: “That you, Seun Emmanuel, 30, on 25 September 2024 at about 4:30 p.m. at Luroho Street, Ode-Irele, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did unlawfully machete one Junior Ayodele, which resulted in his death, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”
Emmanuel’s plea was not taken as his counsel, Kehinde Osadugba, indicated his intention to respond to the prosecutor’s application.
Inspector Adeyemi submitted a request for the court to remand the suspect in a correctional facility.
