Man remanded for illegal possession of firearms

A 20-year-old man, Damilola Arogundade, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court, for illegal possession of guns.
The defendant whose plea was not taken, is facing a lone count of illegal possession of firearms.
Police Prosecutor, Abdulateef Suleiman, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 20, 2024, at Ayegunle Oka-Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government area of Ondo State.
Suleiman said the defendant unlawfully had in his possession, one rifle with identification serial number 1576754 loaded with 20 rounds of live ammunitions and one AK 47 rifle ammunition, which he could not give satisfactory account of how he comes about them.
The offence contravenes Section 27(1) (a) of the Firearms Act Cap F28 LFN 2004.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant at Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure, pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions(DPP).
Magistrate Mrs O.J. Kpemi granted the remand application and adjourned the case till March 26, 2024 for review.
