Man remanded over alleged kidnapping

A middle-age-man Eirege Onoriode, suspected to have kidnapped one David Aladesawe, has been remanded in prison by an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Oke-Eda.
The prosecution said Onoriode, and others at large, while armed with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, attacked and kidnapped the victim.
The accused with his partners in crime were said to have compelled the victim’s family to pay the sum of N170,000 ransom, which they allegedly collected before he was released.
The police prosecutor, Mr Uloh Goodluck, said the accused committed the offence in February 19, 2019 at about 5:20pm at Omotosho area, along Lagos /Ore road.
The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The offence also contravened section 3(i) (ii) (b) of the Ondo State Anti- kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Laws of 2010.
The plea of the accused was not taken.
Goodluck, moved a motion on noticed, and prayed the court to remand the accused in prison custody pending the advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
Counsel for the accused, Mr U.P Oando, did not oppose the prosecutor’s application for remand.
The magistrate, Mrs Charles Adeyanju, ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody pending legal advice from the DPP’s office.
She adjourned the case till October 16, 2019.
