Two men, Ifaola Sikiru, and Olasoji Sikiru, have been remanded in Ile-Ife prison by an Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a man seeking spiritual help.
Ifaola, 64 and Olasoji, 25, allegedly committed the offence on May 27, 2019 at 1 a.m. in Modakeke, Ife East area council.
The prosecutor, Inspector Glory Ona, told the court that the duo conspired and defrauded the complainant, one Okpanachi Mohammed of the sum of N365, 000.
Ona said the accused persons obtained the money from the complainant and told him that they would help solve the spiritual problem he had, a representation they knew was false.
The prosecution said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against them.
The defence counsel, Mr J.A. Akindipe, prayed the court to admit his clients to bail in most liberal terms.
He promised the court that his clients would not jump bail, while they would provide substantial sureties.
The magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Famuyide, who declined the bail application ordered the remand of the accused persons in Ile-Ife prison, and adjourned the case till July 15, 2019 for mention.
