Man stabs woman with bottle

A 33-year-old man, Adewale Adetunji, has been dragged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for unlawfully assaulting one Idowu Oseyemi by stabbing her with broken bottle .
The defendant who was arraigned by the police on Monday of one-count charge on assault, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence on February 22, 2019, at about 7:00am, at Adeoye street, Ondo, contrary to and punishable under section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The charge sheet read in part,”That you, Adewale Adetunji February 22, 2019, at about 7:00am, at Adeoye street, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District unlawfully assaulted one Idowu Oseyemi by stabbing her with broken bottle on her left hand and caused her bodily harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Volumes 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Charles Olagbayi, told the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case and applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Lawyer for the accused person, Barrister Olugbenga Akindejoye, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms.
But the presiding Magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi, who refused to grant the defendant bail, ordered his remand in Shegede prison custody.
She adjourned the case till May 6 , 2019 for consideration of bail and commencement of trial.
