An Akure Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 25-year-old man, Funmilayo Asojo, Aka Sharp Sharp at the correctional centre  in Olokuta, for killing one Mr. Bamiduro Adewole with a stone.

Asojo was reported to have killed the deceased, while settling rifts between him and his debtor over N700.

The accused whose residence was not given was alleged to have committed the offence in December 28, 2022, at about 5.00pm at Ute, in Owo Local Government area of Ondo State.

The Hope Metro gathered that the 59-year-old  victim who  was a security guard in a government primary school was bludgeoned with a stone  at the back of his head, when he was trying to settle a rift between the defendant and his debtor over N700

It was also gathered that sympathisers immediately took the victim who was in a pool of blood to a hospital where he was confirmed dead two days after.

The brother of the deceased, one Mr. Adewole reported the incident to the police which led to the arrest of the accused.

When speaking with The Hope Metro, Adewole said, “I was called that Asojo hit my brother’s head with a stone after he appealed to him not join issues with his friend who was owing him N700.

“I did not belief it until I saw Duro’s lifeless body  at the mortuary.

 “The accused was known all over the town to be the Personal Assistant to the deceased,” he said.

The police arraigned the suspect on one count bordering on murder.

According to the prosecution, the offence contravene Sections 319 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen,  urged the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta correctional centre pending the outcome of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Magistrate, R.O Yakubu, did not take the plea of the defendant for want in jurisdiction.

Yakubu, therefore, ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending advice from the DPP.

She adjourned the case till March 19 for mention.
