Man strangulates his baby to death

A 40-year-old man, Abiodun Fatunmise has been remanded in prison by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly strangulating his 11-month-old baby to death.

The prosecutor, ASP Joseph Adebayo said that the accused person conspired with others still at large to commit  the offence to wit: murder, by strangulating the 11-month-old girl to death.

According to Adebayo, the accused person committed the offence on May 6, 2019 at about 8:30 a.m., at Igboya area, Ile-Ife.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 316, 319 (1) and 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002

The court did not take the plea.

The magistrate, Mr Olukunle Owolawi, who remanded the defendant held that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case.

Owolawi ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The case was adjourned till June 13, 2019 for mention.
