Man,27, docked over theft

A 21-year-old man , David Asukuo, has been dragged before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for allegedly stealing property worth N83,000.

The police brought Asuko before the court on Thursday for conspiring with others at large to steal the property belonging to two persons; Adewale Adekalu and Dayo Olusegun.

Asukuo is facing a two- count charge on conspiracy and stealing.

According to the prosecution, the items he and his accomplices stole included one palm slippers valued at N1500,  one MP3 player valued at N5,500, one half keg of palm oil valued at N30000, one itel phone valued at N12,000, one small itel phone valued at N4,000, and one keg of palm oil valued at N30000.

He was alleged to have committed the offence on December 19, 2021, at about 4pm at Lukolu village via Ayeyemi road, Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District, contrary to and punishable under Sections 516 and 390(9)of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The police prosecutor, Mr Gbenga Akinsulire, who informed the court that four prosecution witnesses would testify in the case, hence he applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

Lawyer for the defendant, Adewale Adelabu, applied for the bail of the accused in most liberal terms.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs I.Ijeh granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction, while they must show valid I.D and photocopies of their Identification cards.

Ijeh adjourned the case till July 25, 2022 for trial
