The Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency has taken the lead among other States in Nigeria following the outstanding performances on Local Government Area samples both in measles integrated campaign and Out Break Response (OBR) conducted in January 2023.
Permanent Secretary, of the agency, Dr Francis Akanbiemu stated this in his remark at the Routine Immunization (RI) Intensification Committee meeting in Akure.
Akanbiemu attributed the excellent performances to the supports of State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON.
He listed some of the Governor’s interventions to include, release of funds to purchase two (100kVA) generators to power the Cold chain, regular release of funds to purchase diesel for the generators, as well as release of counterpart funds, to mention a few.
While appreciating the staff of the Agency for doing well on immunization programmes and making the state proud, he advised them to keep the flag flying.
Director, Diseases Control and Immunization Dr Victor Adefesoye said the R I Intensification meeting was to further ensure better performance in immunization programmes in the state noting that the committee has been inaugurated by the Permanent Secretary.
Adefesoye said members were selected based on previous performances and high level of commitment over times.
According to him 13 local government have been selected out of the 18 Local government in Ondo State and the exercise would last for 3months..
Representative of World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Talat Aladesawe said it is gratifying that Ondo State is doing well in the health sector especially immunization programmes assuring of more support from WHO to ensure healthy living of the citizens.
The meeting which further unveiled some future action plans had in attendance Directors, representatives of UNICEF, NPHCDA, Immunization Officers, Logistics Officers Data Officers among others.
