Mechanic docked over N2.8m theft

A 22-year-old mechanic, Abass Abdullahi, has been dragged before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, for stealing items worth N2.8million from a Network provider company in Ondo.

The police brought Abdullahi before the court for stealing two GLO mask backup batteries without the complainant’s consent.

Abdullahi was said to have committed the offence on May 10, 2024, at Sabo road, in Ondo town.

According to the Prosecution, the offence contravenes Section 383(2)(a) and punishable under Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, inspector Akao Moremi, told the court that three witnesses would testify in the case.

He applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

The defendant was not legally represented in court.

The Magistrate, Mrs Mosunmola Ikujuni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million with two credible sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction, while they must attach valid I.D card, and two passports each, to be verified by the court orderly and the clerk.

Ikujuni adjourned the case till May 28, 2024, for hearing.
