Mechanic remanded over alleged theft of compressors, motorcycle

A 34-year-old mechanic, Samson Ayotomilola, has been arraigned by the Ondo State Police Command before an Akure Magistrates’ Court on charges of burglary and theft involving 13 compressors and a motorcycle.
Ayotomilola, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of felony, burglary, and theft.
According to the police prosecutor, Taiwo Oniyere, the defendant allegedly broke into the shop of Jobiola Oluwarotimi at No. 1 Odosea, Oke Aro, Akure, around midnight on October 18, 2024, and stole 13 compressors valued at N455,000.
The defendant is also accused of selling a motorcycle worth N240,000, which was given to him for repairs by one Olumide Akinrotimi.
The offences contravene Sections 383, 413, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Ayotomilola pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutor Oniyere indicated plans to call three witnesses and requested a date to review the case file.
Defence counsel, Onuh, did not object but applied for bail on lenient terms.
Magistrate O.T. Lebi granted bail at N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, provide an affidavit of means, and submit two passport photographs.
Unable to meet the bail conditions, Ayotomilola was remanded in police custody.
The case was adjourned till December 4, 2024, for further hearing.
