Mechanic remanded over theft

For stealing trailer battery, a 30-year-old man, Friday Joseph, has been remanded in Correctional Centre by an Akure Magistrates’ Court.
The accused person committed the offence on January 19, 2022 around 1:00am at number 14, Broad Street, Ode-Irele area in Ondo State Magisterial District.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Suleiman Abdullateef, told the court that the defendant entered into the house of one Olanrewaju Adetuyi and stole one trailer battery.
The offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 383 (1), 411 (2) and 390 of Criminal Code Cap 37 vol.1 law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006
But the accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him, while his lawyer , Ola Adedire prayed the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.
In his ruling, Magistrate Tope Aladejana ordered the remand of the accused at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.
He adjourned the case till February 21, 2022 for ruling on the bail condition.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ojo Mattew, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Ede.
The State Commandant of NSCDC, Ocheja Emmanuel who disclosed this to newsmen on Monday, said the suspect was arrested at Ede in Osun State.
Ocheja who spoke through NSCDC Media Officer, Atanda Olabisi said the man who hails from Ede South Local Government of the State was caught in the act of stealing the motorcycle.
He noted that the suspect was arrested with the help of residents who alerted the Corps.
Speaking, the suspect confessed that he does not want to steal the motorcycle, but to siphon fuel from the motorcycle into his own.
Ocheja, however, authorized further investigation and vowed that the Corps is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens in the State.
