Media commended for fostering unity in Nigeria

Nigeria media have been commended for their role of fostering unity ,peace and security of the nation through the information they disseminate to the heterogeneous society across the globe.

This commendation was given by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo who  spoke with reporters shortly after he was conferred with an award as “Pillar of Security” by Chronicle Magazine during its fifth year Anniversary held at the Royal Parklane Hotel Ijapo in Akure at the weekend.

Dojumo who commended the role played by men of the fourth Estate of the realm in the development of peace and unity of the country said information is necessary for human life and as such, journalists must be appreciated for living up to their statutory responsibilities.

The SSA who was of the opinion that the Nigerian media have been doing its very best in information management which according to him has  been projecting the nation in a good light despite  all the challenges facing her  at the moment urged them not to relent in their efforts especially at this critical time the country is approaching electioneering year.

Dojumo who described the Anniversary lecture topic:The Quest for Power Shift to Nigerian Youths;Prospects and Challenges as educating and enriching  said the choice of the topic is coming at a time when there is a clamour for  youths to actively participate in politics thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into law the “Not too Young to Run bill”.

He encouraged the youths to venture into leadership positions by  involving themselves in active politics since they are the future of tomorrow saying that is the only way they can meaningfully contribute to the development of the nation.

He appreciated the  publisher ,management and staff of the Chronicle magazine for counting him worthy for the award which he said would encourage him to continue to do his best for the overall interest of peace and security of the state.

While saying security is paramount for development for any responsible government in a democratic society he said that is the reason why the present administration under the leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has taken issues bothering on security seriously by the various measures put in place to tackle any security challenge that may arise in the state.

He stated that Ondo State is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria and that the relative peace being enjoyed at the moment was as a result of the collaborative efforts by all and sundry adding that the government will continue to guarantee the safety of lives of the citizens of the state irrespective of  where they reside .

He used the occasion to appeal to the general public to always give useful information to the relevant security agencies and  also to his office as every information given to them would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

Dojumo had received over 10 different awards from various local and international bodies for his selfless services to God and humanity.
