Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has dismissed reports alleging that he was appointed to head a consultation committee in the South-West for a supposed campaign in support of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The report, which appeared in a national daily, failed to indicate who made the said appointment or when and where it was announced.
However, a statement posted on facebook by Mimiko’s former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, described the development as a fabrication lacking any element of truth, noting that it was based on speculation and not credible information.
“The story is entirely false. It is nothing more than a rumour presented as news,” the clarification stated.
It added that while Mimiko maintains respect for former President Jonathan, he has not been contacted, nor has he agreed to participate in any political activity of that nature.
The statement further noted that such misleading stories are not unusual during politically charged periods when false narratives are often peddled about prominent figures.
“As the political season heats up, more of these baseless stories will likely emerge about leaders like Iroko, who have chosen to maintain a quiet profile for now,” it added.
