A man identified as Sharahu Haruna was reportedly killed in Gidan Katakare, Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State, during a mob attack triggered by accusations of witchcraft levelled against his relative.

The incident, which occurred around 10:30p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, has thrown the community into mourning and raised concerns over rising jungle justice in the state.

It was gathered that trouble started when some members of the community accused one Haruna Lawali of allegedly bewitching a woman, identified as Nafisa Masa’udu. The situation quickly escalated as an angry mob stormed Lawali’s residence in protest, demanding explanations over the purported spiritual attack.

According to reports obtained from security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the confrontation turned violent, leading to the firing of a Dane gun during the chaos. The gunshot reportedly struck and killed Sharahu Haruna, who was caught in the crossfire.

Security operatives from the Birnin Magaji Division were immediately alerted and swiftly deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, the police took necessary documentation of the incident and subsequently released the deceased’s body to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

While no arrest had been made as of the time of filing this report, authorities have commenced investigations into the incident.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity told Zagazola that the role of the community in the attack is currently under scrutiny.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those involved and unravel the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
