The Alaaye of Efon-Alaaye, in Ekiti State, Oba Adesoye Aladejare, has advocated the need for states and federal governments to enact a law against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) of a girl child in the country.

Oba Aladejare stated this in his palace on Thursday, while receiving members of the New Generation Girls and Women Development Initiative (NGGWDI), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), based in Ekiti state.

The monarch while maintaining that the enactment of the law was long overdue, noted that  the move would   go a long way in checking what he called  the activities of those who still indulge in the act and thereby cause harmful effect to women and girl child.

As a panacea to the menace, the first class traditional ruler called on all agencies concerned to the cultural practice which he described as one of the greatest challenges facing the female child in the society.

He commended organisation for embarking on the sensitization and awareness programme which he described as apt, he reiterated the readiness of members of his community and other neighbouring towns to key into the programme.

Earlier in her speech,  the Founder  and Executive Director of the organisation, Miss Abimbola Aladejare, said the organisation was founded in 2012 with over 3,000 members spread across Ekiti state with the aim of promoting the health and right of women in the society.
