The Olowu of Kuta Kingdom, Osun State, Oba (Dr) Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude, has called on traditional rulers in Nigeria to promote cultures and traditions that foster unity within their respective communities.
Oba Oyelude made this remark during a community gathering at his palace where he emphasised the importance of using traditional practices to strengthen bonds among diverse groups.
He stated that the role of traditional rulers in ensuring sustainable peace in society cannot be overstated. According to him, traditional institutions must be respected and should use their influence to promote cultural values that unify people.
Oba Oyelude also highlighted the urgent need for people from different cultural and religious backgrounds to work together. He called on individuals of all faiths to prioritise peace and mutual respect through their cultural heritage.
“We must live peacefully and with tolerance,” he said, adding that Nigeria’s major religions and traditional worshippers had coexisted harmoniously for centuries, and there should be no reason for hostilities now.
