Monarch’s death: No curfew in Ijesaland – Prime Minister

Following the demise of the first-class monarch, the Owa of Obokun, Oba Gabriel Aromolaran, the Owa-in-council has announced the suspension of palace activities.

The Owa-in-council, traditionally referred to as Agbaijesa, has also ordered that all markets across Ijesaland be closed for seven days, starting from tomorrow, Saturday, 14th September 2024, in honour of the late traditional ruler.

The entire community is reportedly in a state of mourning, while many prominent Nigerians have continued to pour encomiums on the late monarch, who was described as a father and an exceptional personality whose efforts brought peace and development to Ijesaland.

Announcing the passing of the Oba of Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, the second-in-command, Obala of Ijesaland, High Chief Ibitoye Adeniyi, stated that no curfew has been imposed anywhere in Ijesaland.

According to Chief Obala, residents of Ilesa and its environs should go about their lawful and legitimate businesses without fear.

The traditional Prime Minister of the Palace noted that the suspension of palace activities became necessary to allow for traditional rites.

He said: “I want to inform you all of the ascension to a greater realm of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, PhD, CFR, LLD, Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, which sad event took place between the 11th and 12th of September 2024.

“Consequently, you are all enjoined to take special note of the following: all markets across Ijesaland shall remain closed for seven (7) days, starting from 14th and ending on 20th September 2024. All markets shall reopen on 21st September 2024.

“No curfew is imposed anywhere in Ijesaland. Therefore, all citizens are urged to go about their normal daily lives and activities.

“The palace at Okemese shall remain closed with immediate effect, and all activities are suspended until further notice. Traditional transition rites shall continue for 90 days.

“We urge all sons and daughters of Ijesaland to remain peaceful and offer prayers for the family left behind by our Kabiyesi, and for the entire Ijesaland,” he stated.
