Mother remanded for murder

For allegedly beating her 6-year-old daughter to death, one  Elizabeth Akinola, has been ordered to be remanded in prison custody by an Akure Magistrate court.

The 37-year-old mother was brought before Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, on two count-charge of felony and murder.

According to the prosecution, the defendant who was on the run after beating the victim, Testimony Awe, with cane  resulting to her death was later arrested by the police at Ikare Akoko.

The prosecution added that the defendant committed the offence with one Felix Babalola who is at large  on August 21, 2019 at about 2:30pm at Iro street, Akure.

The  offence was contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 324 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Suleiman Abdulateef, made an application that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending the issuance of legal advice.

Lawyer to the defendant, Mr O.I Balogun opposed the application,  saying  the application was not serve to them on time and he needed time to make a counter affidavit.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Victoria Bob-manuel, however, refused the prayer of the defendant’s counsel and ordered that the defendant be remanded at Olokuta Prison Custody pending the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutor.

The case was adjourned till October 9, 2019.
