Motorcyclist, 31, docked over assault

The police in Ekiti State on Tuesday, arraigned a 31-year-old man, Ibrahim Hammed, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court, over alleged assault and violent threat.
The defendant who is a commercial motorcyclist, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and violent threat.
The prosecutor, Inspector Adewale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 6, 2024 at about 11:00 a.m in Ikun-Ekiti, Moba Local Government area of Ekiti State.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted one Adamu Salihu and injured him in his farm land in the local community.
Oriyomi also alleged that the defendant threatened violence against the complainant.
He said the defendant and the complainant, who were neighbours had an argument which resulted into a fight.
According to him, the offences contravened sections 186 and 69 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olarewaju Owoleso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till April 9, for hearing.
