Motorcyclist arraigned for rape, robbery

A 24-year-old motorcyclist, Ayorinde Ogunleye, has been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate Court, for alleged rape and robbery.

The defendant whose address was not provided, is facing two counts of robbery and rape.

The police prosecutor, Sulaiman Abdullateef, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 15, 2023, at about 10am at Okota Grammar School via Akure.

He said the defendant, while armed with dangerous weapons robbed and dispossessed a woman, one Temitope Adebayo, of her belongings and stabbed her with a knife which caused injuries on her body.

The prosecutor alleged that Ogunleye also unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the complainant without her consent.

The offences as stated in the charge contravene Sections 1(1) 2(a and d), 357, 358 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap RII, Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

Abduallateef prayed the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre. He asked for an adjournment to allow him study the case file and also bring his witnesses to court.

Chief Magistrate Tope Aladejana remanded the defendant in the Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till December 4, 2023, for hearing.
