Motorcyclist attacked as crime surges on Ikaram-Akunu road

From Jimoh Ahmed, Owo

With security operatives now heavily stationed along the once-deadly Arigidi-Okeagbe route, where motorcyclists had previously met violent ends, criminals have redirected their sinister activities to other roads within Akoko.

The latest in this wave of attacks unfolded yesterday when Mr. Ibitoye Adewale was viciously ambushed along the Ikaram-Akunu road. His attackers, after savagely hacking him with machetes and assuming he was dead, made off with his motorcycle, leaving him unconscious by the roadside.

However, the quick intervention of the Amotekun Corps, in collaboration with local vigilantes, led to the apprehension of one of the culprits, found cowering in the bush.

Mr. Adewale, who survived the brutal attack, has since been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for urgent medical attention.

Reacting to the spate of assaults, the Akala of Ikaram, Oba Andrew Momodu, called for increased motorised patrols by security agencies on these vulnerable roads, suggesting that local vigilantes should bolster their efforts.

He also commended the Akoko Security, Peace, and Development Council, a non-governmental organisation, for its relentless push towards securing the region and fostering its socio-economic progress.

Meanwhile, the arrested suspect has been handed over to the police as security personnel intensify their search of the forest in pursuit of the remaining gang members.
