Motorcyclist crushes 71-year-old to death, arraigned

A 23-year-old motorcyclist, Femi Oluwole, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly crushing a 71-year-old man to death through dangerous and reckless driving.
Oluwole whose home address was not given was docked on a three-count charge of reckless driving; causing death, driving without a valid licence and document
The prosecutor, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin said the defendant allegedly committed the offence on August 27, 2024, at about 8:00 pm at Leo Junction, along Oyemekun Road, Akure.
Akintimehin told the court that Oluwole on the aforementioned day, being the rider of a blue TVS motorcycle with number plate FAB117VO, allegedly drove it on a public highway dangerously and recklessly.
He said the defendant allegedly, having no regard for all circumstances of other road users, caused the death of a 71-year-old man, Dayo Komolafe, in front of his house.
The defendant was also alleged of driving the said motorcycle on a public highway without a valid license and also failed to produce the motorcycle document on demand.
He said the offence contravened Sections 18(c), 7(1), and 36 (1)(P) of the Road Traffic Act, Vol. II, Cap 136 Vol. 3 of Ondo State, 2006
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The defence counsel, Mr. Kehinde Akintelure, asked the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms.
He said the family of the defendant and that of the deceased are already deliberating on how to settle the matter out of court amicably.
Magistrate Kolawole Aro granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned till October 31, for hearing.
