Impatience and reckless riding on Sunday caused a commercial motorcyclist to lose his life, while his passenger got injured, when he rammed into a truck fully loaded with cartons of beer, at Semusemu, Olokun Agbaluku, Arigidi road, in Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of Ondo state.
The Hope Metro reliably gathered that the accident which occurred at about 7.30 pm, involved the motorcycle and the truck with number plate Epe 304 XR.
However, as at press time, the identities of the deceased and the injured passenger and driver were yet to be known.
According to an eyewitness, the accident happened when the commercial motorcyclist carrying another passenger rammed into truck which was making a U turn on the road.
The eyewitness said the okada rider, who was on a top speed was unaware of the truck and rammed into it.
The impact of the accident reportedly resulted in the death of the rider on the spot.
But his passenger who sustained serious injury was rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare where he was placed on danger list before he was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
Confirming the incident, the Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ikare-Akoko unit, Mr Jimoh Basiru stated that the accident was caused by night driving and reckless attitude of the motorcyclist.
Jimoh advocated the use of helmet to protect head injury in case of accident by motorcyclists.
The Divisional Police Officer, Okeagbe Police Division, SP Ibitayo Adetanrami disclosed that the police have commenced investigation into the matter.
The Sunday accident occurred just on the same spot where an accident involving a timber lorry claimed four lives late last year.
Meanwhile, concerned residents who are deeply worried about incessant accidents on the road have called on the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, to build speed breakers on some spots on the road, so as to prevent reoccurrence of accidents.
