A 48-year-old motorcyclist, Olusola Akinmade, has appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for threatening three persons over their money in his custody.
The defendant was alleged to have unlawfully and fraudulently obtained the sum of N425,000 from Adeyemi Bosede; Segun Samuel and Toyin Samuel under false pretence to help them save the money in his account, but failed to produce it at the demand of the owners.
Rather than refund the money, Akinmade was said to have threatened to kill them should they ask him for the money again.
The police prosecutor, Mr Bernard Olagbayi, said the defendant committed the offence on March 24, 2023, at about 4 pm at No.10 Ebido Street, Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District.
The charge read in part, ”That you, Akinmade Olusola on March, 24 2023, at about 4pm at No. 10 Ebido Street, Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District, unlawfully and fraudulently obtained the sum of N30,000 from one Bosede Adeyemi ; N95,000 from one Segun Samuel N300,000 from one Toyin Samuel total sum of N425,000, under false pretence to help them save the money in your own account, but failed to produce the money at the demand of the owners and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The defence counsel, Mr Tosin Okesola, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one credible surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till September 21, 2023 for a hearing.
