Motorcyclist, one other remanded for rape of minors

A 27-year-old motorcyclist, Ojo Adebola, has been remanded by an Akure  Magistrate Court, for alleged rape.

The defendant whose address was not provided, is facing one count of rape.

The police prosecutor,  Sola Jejeniwa, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 28, 2023 at about 1:00pm along Ayepe road, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.

The prosecutor alleged that Adebola unlawfully had carnal knowledge of Oluwabunmi Faith without her consent.

The offences as stated in the charge, contravene Section 218 of the Criminal code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria, 2006.

Jejeniwa prayed the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending issuance of advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. (DPP).

 Magistrate Sunday Adedapo remanded the defendant in police custody and adjourned the case till February 6, 2024, pending the outcome of DPP’s advice.

In a similar case, Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has remanded a man, Onyeka Mbaka, in a correctional facility for alleged defilement of a 15-year old girl.

Oshodi remanded Mbaka in Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Center, pending the determination of his bail application and commencement of trial.

He subsequently adjourned the case til March 22 for trial.

The defendant, whose residential address was not given, was arraigned by the Lagos State Government for defilement.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

Following his not guilty plea, the state counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, prayed the court to remand the defendant accordingly.

Okeowo had told the court that the prosecution intends to call three witnesses to prove the charge against the defendant.

She said that the defendant committed the offence sometime in March 2023 at No. 16, Moshalasi Street, in the Ilasa area of Lagos.

According to her, the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
