Wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu in conjunction with the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and Forum for Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO) will on Friday join the global community to commemorate this years edition of the International Women’s Day in the state.
The day was set aside to acknowledge and appreciate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also making a call to action for accelerating gender balance.
In a statement signed by the Special Assistant (Media) to Mrs Akeredolu, Miss Oluwatobi Fademi, she described the programme as an annual event, stating that the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day Celebration is “Balance for Better”, a Call to Action for Driving Gender Balance across the world, which includes, but not limited to a gender-balanced boardroom and a gender balanced government.
Adding that gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.
According to her, activities lined up for this year’s celebration are a Public Lecture with the topic, “Inspiring Women for Greater Inclusion” on Wednesday March 6 with Professor (Mrs.) Helen Ogunsuyi of the Federal University of Technology, Akure as guest lecturer at the Babafunke Ajasin Auditorium, Igbatoro road, while Maternity kits will be distributed to expectant mothers across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State on Friday.
Fademi in the statement urged women across the State to join Her Excellency in celebrating this year’s event in honour of women’s achievements, noting that with women making up more than 50 per cent of the world’s population and often being the main link for the family and connection to the community, there remains a great deal of work to be done to ensure equal rights in all aspects of life.
