Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu at the weekend, led the team of the Sharing Hope Medical Mission from the United States of America, to Emeabiam in Imo State for a free medical outreach earlier rendered in Ondo State.
The visit also witnessed the foundation laying of Ada Emeabiam Development Centre, ADEDEC, a project of Mrs. Akeredolu aimed at transforming the community, which consists of a community clinic to enhance quick access to healthcare services for the people.
Other services to be rendered at ADEDEC included, leadership training, ICT training for youths, skills acquisition and empowerment opportunities for women, among others.
Addressing her people, Mrs. Akeredolu lamented the activities of quack healthcare providers who couldn’t give adequate service to the people, noting that a standard health facility was critical to Emeabiam, due to the lack of good road to rush patients to the nearby community where they could get treatment.
According to her, she was putting it up out of passion for her people, in the spirit of voluntarism as demonstrated by the Sharing Hope Medical Mission, USA, and to leave a best legacy.
“It has been my vision and it’s becoming a reality, one of the things that moved me was the lack of health facility which had led to the death of pregnant women in this community”. She said.
Responding, the traditional ruler of Umuokpo Emeabiam, His Royal Highness, Eze Eunan Eke, lauded the magnanimity of Mrs Akeredolu and the Sharing Hope Mission for extending the medical outreach to the community.
He therefore presented an award of Humanitarian Service to the Medical team and decorated its members with Igbo traditional caps.
Objectives of the development centre are to transform the community, to foster peace among the people, stimulate economic activities among youths, to promote greenlife through eco-tourism, and to promote elevation of the status of women through empowerment.
The leader of Sharing Hope Medical Mission from San Diego California, Dr. Emeka Anyanwu noted that the presence of a standard clinic would aid their services in the future visit.
The USA medical team were led to the palace of the Okpo 1 of Emeabiam where they were entertained with Abigolo dance, and also visited the Freedom Square Art Village Gallery, and the Community Comprehensive High School where they encouraged the students.
