Music chose me – Shogskeed

By Omowumi Oyewumi
Rising Nigerian hip-hop sensation, Oladiran Oluwasogo, better known as Shogskeed, is steadily making a name for himself in the competitive music industry. With a sound that fuses rap and Afrobeat, the Oyo State-born artist is determined to leave a lasting imprint on the scene.
Speaking with Weekend Extravaganza, Shogskeed reflected on his journey, artistic influences and aspirations. His love for music was ignited during his time at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, where he honed his craft while drawing inspiration from rap icons, the late Dagrin and Olamide.
Unlike many commercial artists focused solely on mainstream appeal, Shogskeed prioritises depth in his music. His lyrics mirror life’s struggles, urging listeners to embrace happiness despite challenges. This philosophy is evident in his hit track, Chop Life, which carries a clear message:
“Problems will always come, so why not take time to enjoy life?”
Beyond his studio sessions, Shogskeed has graced major stages, including a performance alongside Ruger at the Lagos NYSC Orientation Camp, an experience he describes as unforgettable.
“Feeling the crowd’s energy and seeing them vibe to my music was a surreal moment for me,” he recalled.
His ambitions extend beyond Nigeria, with a dream of opening for Olamide at London’s O2 Arena, an achievement he believes would mark a significant milestone in his career.
Recognising the impact of digital platforms, Shogskeed acknowledges the role of social media in amplifying independent artists.
“Technology has made it easier for emerging artists like me to connect with a global audience without necessarily relying on record labels,” he noted.
For those eager to explore his music, Shogskeed’s tracks are available on all streaming platforms. Follow him on social media via @shogskeed to stay updated on his journey.
