‘Music runs in my family’

A Nigerian gospel artiste, Evang Lekan Remilekun Amos JP has said that he ventured into music when he recorded a tribute album for his father.

The son of the great gospel music legend, Dr. Remilekun Amos, in an interview with Friday Extravaganza noted that he has been following his father to perform when he was twelve years.

According to him, he did not choose music intentionally as a career,  but prophecy had earlier said that he would become a minister of God even though he aspired to be a lecturer.

The graduate of Physics Electronics from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) revealed that  he learnt a lot from his daddy being his mentor.

He mentioned some of the challenges he faced at his initial stage to include being an upcoming artist and teenager, people did not have belief in him when he started.

According to him, the fact that some people tend to influence him to add some “worldly” stunts to his kind of music believing that his kind of gospel music is too concentrated despite what God wants him to do, but he always declined, saying God has been helping him to overcome them.

“The idea of music came up to me naturally, it is my calling, I call it the lineage of David because my grandfather and my father  were both  musicians and now I’m into it, provided my children fulfill their educational ambitions, they can do music in a professional way. Sincerely music runs in my family.

“God has been faithful to me, I have been able to release albums titled Aye soro, Aditu nla, Igi aruwe, Olorun Esan, The light, Ifarada, Majemu titun and Afowofa,” he mentioned.

He stated that he charged professionally even as people do not want to see gospel musicians as businessmen and women, they sometimes want free services in the name of ministry.

Lekan Remilekun noted that his aim is to take gospel music to the peak and to totally convince people that they can do pure gospel music and get to the peak of achievement  without adding anything odd.

The artiste said that he can rely on the job because his ministry has opened unimaginable doors for him and others saying he can add other businesses so far it won’t stop or limit him from active participation of his brand.

He urged upcoming artistes to be focused, have patience, be educated ,research and live according to the guidelines of the Holy Bible.

According to him, gospel music should be a kind of music rendered in the holy spirit to reconcile men to God and lift souls, not music that will make men go astray from the ways of the Lord, it different from secular music in which the renderer can do his will.

He noted that since he has been singing, he has the privilege to take the gospel to nook all  and crannies, both home and abroad.
