My greatest regret is disappointing Tope Alabi– Actor Olaiya

Veteran Nollywood actor, Olaiya Igwe, has expressed deep regret over his past decision to disappoint renowned gospel singer, Tope Alabi, on her wedding day.
In a recent interview with Baba Ibe TV, the actor recalled how he reneged on an agreement to lend his luxury car to the singer and her husband, Soji Alabi, for their wedding, despite having earlier promised them.
According to Igwe, the incident occurred years ago after the success of his blockbuster movie, Ololade Mr Money, which enabled him to purchase a brand-new Mercedes-Benz V-Boot.
Recounting the experience, he revealed that Alabi and her husband had visited him during their wedding preparations, pleading with him to allow them to use his vehicle for their official ride. He initially agreed but later had a change of heart, ignoring their calls on the eve of the ceremony.
He disclosed that his decision was influenced by fear, as he had recently been a victim of car theft in Ibadan, Oyo State, where armed robbers briefly snatched the same vehicle before it was recovered.
“What hurt me most and still haunts me is what I did to my younger sister, Tope Alabi. She came to me and asked to use my car for her wedding, and I agreed. But after she left, I thought to myself, ‘What if armed robbers attack them and take the car?’ So, I decided not to give her the car and stopped picking her calls a day before the wedding,” he recounted.
Despite having apologised to the couple at a professional gathering in Ogun State, the actor admitted that the guilt still lingers, especially considering Alabi’s current success and wealth.
“But today, she has countless luxury cars, some of which I can’t even afford. It still pains me that I let her down,” he added.
Igwe described the incident as one of the biggest regrets of his life, underscoring the weight of broken promises and missed opportunities for kindness.
