‘My husband has gone mad again’

My husband hàs gone loco. I want nothing more to do with him. That is the song a housewife in our neighbourhood is singing for the whole world to hear presently concerning her marriage.

Love between them seems to have flown out the window. None of them wants to give in to the other.

The marriage seems to have broken down irretrievably going by the happenings in their home.

Their happy moments were very scarce as the husband had always had a suspicion that his wife was promiscuous and that she was cheating on him.

Although he had never caught his wife red handed with any lover yet nothing would dissuade him from his suspicion. The fact that she already had three issues with him had not given him confidence in the marriage.

As the years go by, the rift between them widened. More than ever, the couple were at logger head.

It got to a head one day when the man had come to torment his wife as usual. Then he had packed his belongings and left the house following another of their terrible physical brawl.

Unknown to him, some youths in the vicinity were watching him as he went to his wife’s shop again to terrorize her as before.

He had left his wife and children in their matrimonial home two months previously with claims that the wife wanted to stab him while he slept. Hence he claimed that he slept home for fear for his life.

However he was in the habit of destroying his wife’s goods and properties whenever he came to her shop during their any of their quarrels.

This time also, he sauntered in and looked around. The wife was looking apprehensive as she believed that he was only there to foment trouble as usual.

He began to make trouble and accused her of now having free rein to indulge in her waywardness with him leaving the house.

Instead of keeping her peace, she replied him that he should mind her own business as each now live separately and that hence she could live her life as she pleased.

One thing led to another and he started to hit her, as he lost his cool.

She too gave as good as she got as she tried to fight back.

At this junction, some youths tried to reason with him not to fight, the elderly man among them held him with the hope that he would show him respect and let the woman be.

He was however very angry already and he pushed the elderly man to the ground.

The angry youths at this point pounced on him and beat him black and blue. In short he got more than he bargained for.
