Ile-Ife, the ancient cradle of the Yoruba race stood still on Monday as the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye  and his entourage stormed the city on a courtesy visit to Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

In what looked like a royal carnival, the Olowo and his convoy got lavish reception from the city gate to the Ooni’s palace.

Oba Ogunoye who was elated by the enthusiastic open arms of the Ife monarch, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi described the visit as a home coming one for him.

The Olowo accompanied by some traditional rulers from his kingdom was ushered into the palatial mansion of the Ooni by hundreds of motorcyclylists, palace drummers and Ballard chanters in a show of love.

At the colourful reception for the Olowo put together by the Ooni and the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Tope Ogunbodede an indigene of Owo, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi welcomed Olowo back home.

The Ooni who severally and jocularly referred to himself as “Eni Owo” meaning a person endowed with honour rejoiced with the Olowo for his choice and installation as the king.

He described the visit as historic for the obvious reason that the two monarchs sprout from the same Oduduwa dynasty.

Going down memory lane, Oba Ogunwusi lauded the maturity showed by the people of Owo when they narrowly lost the location of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) to Ife.

Responding, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye said he was overwhelmed by the reception accorded him and his entourage.
