The Nigerian Air Force Training Command in Ipetu-Ijesha has held its annual 10-kilometre route march for officers.
Speaking at the end of the exercise, Training Commandant Group Captain Abdulkadiri Bello explained that the march was part of the 2024 calendar of events for the Air Force.
The Commandant stated that the exercise was mandatory for all officers and other ranks and would assist them in staying fit while discharging their duties.

He noted that the exercise was taking place in all Air Force formations across Nigeria as an annual event held simultaneously.
“The route march is one of the military exercises earmarked to enhance regimental spirit and sportsmanship within the military. It ensures that personnel remain fit and combat-ready, which is what you’ve just seen.

“We trekked 10 kilometres and returned looking more agile and healthy, so the main purpose of this is to keep fit and demonstrate our combat readiness.

“We have about 120 personnel on parade because these are the ones currently available, except for those on essential duties. All personnel must participate; it is a compulsory parade with instructions from our headquarters to conduct it, and that is what you see us doing.

“It is an annual exercise carried out across the Air Force as directed by the Chief of Army Staff. This is a yearly routine across the country.

“They should continue to conduct themselves peacefully and assist the government in ensuring the security of the land. We are always prepared to confront criminals wherever they may threaten peace, and we will not allow that.”
Also present at the route march were 20 members of the Federal Road Safety Corps and several National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
