‘NAMA’s challenges to be resolved soon

National Airspace Management Authority (NAMA), Akure Airport, has been assured of prompt resolution of some of its challenges in a bid to improve the development of the Airport.

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu gave the assurance during a familiarization visit by the  Airport new Airspace Manager, Adebayo Ogunleye to his office in Akure.

He explained that the Akure Airport, billed to be a cargo port, was very important to the present administration.

“We will see what to do about the runway lights, bad roads and lack of vehicles you mentioned,” he said.

Akeredolu however said whatever the state government would do as  assistance would have to be integrated in the budget for next year.

Earlier, NAMA Manager, Adebayo Ogunleye had commended the Akeredolu-led administration for its numerous laudable projects and programmes.

“When I resumed as the Airspace Manager in Akure, what I used to know Akure to be has completely changed and I must commend you sir for the infrastructural development your administration has put in place.

“Before this administration came on board, there was hardly an Aircraft that came into the state on a daily basis, but after you assumed office, you have turned the Akure Airport into a beehive of business activities as flights now fly into the state often on daily basis”, he said.

Ogunleye hinted that NAMA is committed to safety of the populace and is responsible for putting up equipment to make flight operations a successful one and ensure that the public feel secured whenever they are on board.

“We are also here to inform you that the Chief Executive of NAMA is highly committed to uplifting the Akure Airport from category one Airport to category two by introducing lots of equipment that would turn the airport to a more viable one.

“NAMA as a body, has equipment to guide the pilot’s jurisdiction, but what we have here now is only for Sunset and Sunrise which is not too good for Akure.

“So having been trained on all sorts of equipment, I was sent here to be part of the team that would install the Instrument Landing System (ILS) that would be deployed to the state”, he said.

He explained that the ILS will enable flights to come at all times and would allow the Pilot to land even at zero weather condition, adding that the NAMA management has started with the upgrading of the communication system which has prevented hitch between the controller and the Pilot

The NAMA Manager however, appealed to the Governor to assist the Agency in fixing the Airport’s runway edge light that would enable flights take off or land at nights.
