The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Osun state chapter has condemned the vandalization of facilities by some students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The Chairman of the association, Omololu Abidoye who spoke against the backdrop of the protest carried out by some students of the institution last week, said the action of the students was condemnable and urged the students to apologize formally to the management of the institution.
He said the steps taken by the students was uncivilized, just as he cautioned them against actions that are capable of causing further crisis in the institution.
Abidoye who berated the students’ action stressed that all the students involved in the ugly incident should be made to face the music, adding that NANS was not in support of the students’ action and would not condone such act of indiscipline.
“Some disgruntled elements were behind the crisis at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. We have done our findings and we will soon come out with our reports on the matter. However, we want to condemn the action in strong terms and call for restraints from the students who are supposed to be law abiding people.”
He called on the management of the institution to set up an investigative panel to investigate what led to the crisis with a view to ensuring that those behind the protest and destruction of government facilities are identified and dealt with.
Also, the students leader called on the state government to ensure that the institution is re-opened in no distant time for the students to continue with their examinations.
