The National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) has appealed to the State government to prioritize education and empower students, emphasizing that government intervention in education is crucial to producing skilled and independent students.
The association made this call during one of its events in Akure.
Addressing the gathering, the National President, Sen. Hammed Oyelade, stated that the celebration of unity availed the members the opportunity to call on the state government to implement strategies to improve student and youth empowerment in the state.

The NAOSS Rugipo President, Tosin Daniel, advised the state government to focus on long-term solutions by creating industries and utilizing raw materials within the state to promote employment and empowerment.
According to him, there was a need to stop selling raw materials to foreigners and instead invite them to establish refineries within Nigeria to create usable products and improve employment opportunities.
Also, Bayo Akinnusoye stressed the need to address educational issues starting from the foundational curriculum to prevent challenges for students pursuing unrelated career paths.
He said, “The Ondo State government should look into the schools’ foundational curriculum. For example, a student who is in the science department in senior secondary school, envisioning to become a medical doctor, should not by any means take subjects like marketing.”
Akinnusoye underscored that students should not be required to study subjects unrelated to their intended careers.
In his opinion, Victor Akinyemi, who urged the state government to support creative and skilled youths and students, emphasized the determination of skilled youths not to be a burden on their parents or the government but to contribute positively to society.
While emphasizing maximum publicity on student empowerment, Bamidele Omotomiwa stated that the state government should raise awareness among students that there is financial independence after school.
