National Police Day: NIgerian Govt celebrates inaugural police day with style

The Nigeria Police Force commemorated its inaugural National Police Day on April 7, 2025 with a grand ceremony held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
The event marked a significant milestone in acknowledging the essential role of the police in maintaining national security and stability.
A key highlight of the occasion was a parade and procession by police personnel, showcasing their professionalism and expertise.
In a statement made available to The Hope, the parade featured an impressive display of the Force’s operational and tactical equipment, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robots, specialised EOD vehicles, air and land assets of the Special Intervention Squad, K9 demonstrations, as well as drills by the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Protection Unit (SPU), and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU). Also on display were peacekeeping materials and other equipment.
In his address, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun,underscored the significance of National Police Day as a symbol of the NPF’s renewed commitment to professionalism, community partnership, and service excellence.
The IGP expressed gratitude to the President, Bola Tinubu, for officially designating April 7 each year as National Police Day. He reaffirmed the Force’s resolve to deepen reforms and strengthen its bond with communities, reiterating its dedication to upholding the rule of law, fighting crime, and safeguarding all Nigerians.

In his address, he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of police officers, as well as the provision of modern equipment and technology to boost the operational capacity and efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force.
He also praised the bravery, resilience, and sacrifices of officers across the country in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
The event was attended by a distinguished gathering of dignitaries from across government, security agencies, and the private sector. These included members of the Federal Executive Council, State Governors, members of the National Assembly, Service Chiefs, retired Inspectors-General of Police, Deputy Inspectors-General, members of the Force Management Team, retired senior police officers, members of the Police Veterans Association, industry leaders, and other notable guests.
The Nigeria Police Force extended its sincere appreciation to all guests, partners, and stakeholders whose contributions ensured the success of the maiden National Police Day celebration.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to building on this foundation to enhance its capabilities, strengthen community engagement, and ensure a safer and more secure Nigeria for all.
