NAUS urges transparency in Osun NELFUND disbursements

The Chairman of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) in Osun State, Mr Adeleke Samson, has called on Vice-Chancellors and Provosts of tertiary institutions in the state to provide detailed accounts of the disbursement and utilisation of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Addressing a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Correspondents’ Chapel, Osogbo, Mr Adeleke emphasised that transparency and accountability are crucial in the effective management of the funds. He asserted that students must receive the benefits they are entitled to, and that institutional leaders have a responsibility to ensure proper usage.
“Transparency and accountability are essential in managing these funds, and we will ensure that students receive the benefits they are entitled to,” Mr Adeleke stated.
He further urged all Vice-Chancellors and Provosts to take immediate action to address the issue, stressing the need for clarity on how the funds are being utilised and the impact they are having on students.
“We need to know how these funds are being utilised and what impact they are having on our students. We believe that transparency and accountability are essential for building trust and confidence in the management of NELFUND disbursements,” he added.
Mr Adeleke also reiterated NAUS’s commitment to collaborating with the state government to foster a better student community.
He highlighted the administration’s focus on promoting student welfare, academic excellence and social development.
“Our administration is committed to working closely with the state government to build a better NAUS community. We aim to foster partnerships that promote student welfare, academic excellence and social development,” Mr Adeleke affirmed.
He emphasised that a strong and effective NAUS is essential for advocating student rights and welfare, and that the administration would prioritise student engagement, inclusivity and transparency.
“We believe that a strong NAUS is essential for promoting the interests of our students and for fostering a conducive learning environment in our tertiary institutions,” he concluded.
Adeleke acknowledged and recognised Comrade Olushola Ladoja as the authentic President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
He commended Comrade Ladoja’s leadership in advancing student interests and pledged NAUS’s support for his initiatives aimed at promoting student welfare and rights across the country.

He reiterated NAUS’s commitment to working closely with NANS to address the challenges facing students and to identify opportunities for growth and development, aiming to build a stronger, more prosperous student community in Osun State.
On the issue of secret cultism in institutions, Adeleke called on the management of various higher institutions to map out proactive strategies to curb the menace, just as he assured that his leadership is taking bold steps to address the challenge.
He added that curbing crime and criminality in any society, especially in schools, is a joint responsibility.
