Navy  intercepts boat laden with stolen crude oil in Ilaje

In a decisive operation carried out by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda, a large wooden boat carrying about 40,000 litres of stolen crude oil was on Sunday, intercepted

This was made known by the Commander Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda Navy Captain Aliyu Usman while speaking with The Hope.

He said: “Acting on credible intelligence, the Quick Response Team (QRT) stationed at Awoye was dispatched to Obe-Nla Riverine Community in Ilaje Local Government area, where the criminal activity was uncovered.

“At about 0700 hours, the QRT team arrived at the Obe-Nla seaside and discovered the wooden boat, approximately 30 metres in length, beached near a recently deactivated illegal refining site.

“The vessel, powered by a 40HP outboard engine, was laden with the stolen crude oil.

The Naval boss further narrated that investigation revealed two additional locally fabricated wooden boats, each equipped with three 40HP outboard engines.

“All items were confiscated and deactivated in accordance with established protocols.

“The operation concluded successfully, with the team returning to their base at Awoye by 1500 hours.

“Relevant geo-tagged evidence has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities for further action.

“This interception highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta region. 

He gave a warning that the Navy will continue efforts against all forms of economic sabotage in the country until they stop. Therefore, the perpetrators of illegal bunkering and crude oil theft are advised to engage in legitimate businesses within the maritime environment, he added”.
