NDLEA destroys 100,000kg of Indian Hemp, arrests scores in Ekiti forest
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ekiti State Command, has destroyed over 100,000 kg of cannabis spread across 51 hectares of farmland in three camps within the Ise-Ekiti forest reserve in the Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The operation was carried out in conjunction with the Nigerian Army and some indigenes of the town.
In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi, the affected settlements were identified as Aba Saalaja with 23 hectares, Aba Paanu with 12 hectares, and Aba Arogunmatidi with 16 hectares, all within the Ise-Ekiti forest reserve.
He said NDLEA operatives, supported by Nigerian Army personnel, had stormed the three camps inside the Ise-Ekiti forest reserve, where over 100,000 kg of cannabis spread across 51 hectares of farmland was destroyed.
He said, “The affected settlements include Aba Saalaja with 23 hectares, Aba Paanu with 12 hectares, and Aba Arogunmatidi with 16 hectares, all within the Ise-Ekiti forest reserve.”
He explained that during the operation, which lasted several hours, scores of suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation at the NDLEA command office in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
He further disclosed that they would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are completed.
