Men of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) Ondo State Command has arrested a 32-year- old man, Mr Ifedayo Ajayi, who allegedly signed a consignment from Trinidad and Tobago containing 42.1grams of cocaine.
NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Haruna Gagara, disclosed this to The Hope Metro in his office at the command’s headquarters that the suspect was nabbed after signing the contraband consignment at a courier office in Akure metropolis.
Gagara said, “”On June 13, 2019, men of the command interceded a consignment of vehicle shock absorber from Trinidad and Tobago, containing 42.1grams of cocaine.
“”The suspect, however, gave the name of one Mr Irewole aka “Kumu,” as the owner of the shipment, he said the man, who is resident in Lagos, begged him to assist in receiving the goods.
Our correspondent gathered that men of the command’s Control Delivery Unit (CDU) assigned to trail any consignment carrying illicit drugs from the original country or state to the final destination, apprehended the suspect while he was signing to receive the consignment.
The NDLEA boss further narrated that the suspect claimed that he never knew what was inside the consignment, as he only assisted in receiving it.
“Investigation was further carried out in Lagos, where Irewole was arrested, as investigation is still on going,””he said.
The commander advised that people should, henceforth, desist from receiving any consignment for someone, stressing that they should not agree to it, because they do not know what is actually concealed in the shipment.
