NECO postpones 2024 Entrance Exam

By Saheed Ibrahim

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has postponed the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination into Federal Unity Colleges and the Entrance Examination into Federal Government Academy, Suleja, due to low enrollment of candidates.

Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of the Directorate of Information and Digital Communication at NECO, stated in Abuja that the National Common Entrance Examination, originally scheduled for April 20, 2024, would now take place on June 1, 2024.

He further mentioned that the Entrance Examination for Gifted and Talented Children into Federal Government Academy, Suleja, initially slated for May 4, 2024, has been rescheduled to May 25, 2024.

“The rescheduling of the two examinations was due to low enrollment of candidates. All candidates, parents, guardians, schools, and relevant stakeholders are therefore urged to take note of the new dates for the examinations.

“The registration of candidates will continue until the new dates for the examinations,” the statement noted.

Sani early this month had said that the examination body was doing everything necessary to ensure the exam was held on April 20, seeking maximum cooperation of parents.

“While parents bring their wards for the examination on that day, they must not overcrowd the centre but should as much as they can, exhibit extreme decorum.

“The candidates are children who need concentration and we don’t want noise or any form of distraction during the examination. This is an appeal.”

The NECO official explained that pupils sitting for the examination are expected to be in the age bracket of 10 and 13 years by September 2024, in line with the Federal Government’s directive.
