New AAUA VC resumes

Baring all odds, the 6th substantive Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Professor Olugbenga Ige, will resume office today, a very reliable source in the Ondo State Government owned tertiary institution, told The Hope on Tuesday.
Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, in his position as the visitor to the school had approved his appointment on Monday in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde.
Until his appointment, he was the acting Vice Chancellor of the University.
According to the release, the appointment took effect Wednesday July 7, 2021 for a one-term of five years.
Meanwhile, the news of the appointment of Professor Ige met a wide jubilation in the school community as students and staff of the institution expressed their joy over the development.
Mrs Bridget Adunbiode, a non academic staff in the school described the confirmation of Professor Ige as the Vice Chancellor as a welcome development and long expected.
Mrs Adunbiode was hopeful that his tenure would bring further development to the school.
A 300 level student of Accounting Education, Ahmed Mosunmola who commended the appointment said the new VC is a tested administrator whose tenure will further add value to academic life of the school.
A Principal Assistant Registrar in the school, Mr Victor Akinpelumi who described the new VC as a man of overwhelming administrative experience said his tenure will further add to the capability and capacity of the tertiary institution to stand out among its peers, university world and in the academic world
Reacting, Prof. Ige, who appreciated the Governor for the opportunity and the confidence reposed in him to administer AAUA in the last one and a half years in acting capacity, promised to take the institution to greater-heights and make it globally competitive
Ige joined the services of the then Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti, as a Graduate Assistant in December 1990, and rose steadily through the ranks to become a Professor in October 2011.
A distinguished Professor of Palynology and Palaeoecology, Prof. Olugbenga E. Ige holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in Botany from the University of Benin in 1984.
He proceeded to the Nigeria’s Premier University, the University of Ibadan, where he bagged a Master of Science degree in Botany in the year 1993 and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Botany with specialisation in Palynology & Palaeoecology in 2004.
