A delegation of newly commissioned military officers from Osun State, who recently graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Osogbo.
The delegation, led by Flying Officer Abdullah Sanusi, commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his administration’s notable achievements in infrastructure development, especially in road construction across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Flying Officer Sanusi pointed out the challenges faced by Osun indigenes in securing admission and enlistment into the Nigerian Armed Forces. He appealed to the state government to strengthen its support programmes aimed at boosting Osun’s representation in the military, noting the disparity between the state and some northern counterparts.
Second Lieutenant O.O. Oyegoke stressed the importance of creating greater awareness to inspire young people to pursue military careers. He further urged the government to increase support for cadets during their training, expressing concern over the low number of female recruits from the state.
Similarly, Flying Officer D.A. Aderinwale commended the excellent performance of Osun-born officers in the armed forces, noting that several had distinguished themselves by winning top awards, including the Best Overall Officer. He also called for efforts to bridge the gender gap by encouraging more young women from the state to join the NDA.
Responding on behalf of the SSG, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Cabinet and Special Services, Mr. Olusoji Wojuade, assured the officers that their concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities. He commended them for their dedication to national service and urged them to remain disciplined, patriotic and committed to duty.
Mr. Wojuade described the officers as worthy ambassadors of Osun State and encouraged them to uphold integrity and excellence in their military careers. He reaffirmed the state government’s continuous support for their professional growth and advancement.
